The user's mental model with my full screen youtube on mobile devices is that there is only an expand and contract feature when watching videos on full screen. I don't think it's in their mental model to swipe left to right to view comments and related videos. The implementation model would clash with the mental model. A way to alleviate this is to create un obtrusive icons that would guide the user into swiping.
