3 - Kyle Hiller

As a reminder, the product/page/design I chose last week was the login page for gmail (which can also be used to access many other google services).

This week, looking at it again and focusing specifically on the why has made me think about and notice a few things.  My guess that the bottom line for the designers on this page for why they did what they did was trying to be as simple as possible.  People are very easily distracted and confused, often times with technology.  So making a page with a design with so few options aims to cut out any possible confusion.  Simplicity is an attractive quality for most people when it comes to using technology, even if the technology itself is very advanced.  Allowing the user to only see one possible  place to start doing anything on the page is a very logical and practical idea.  The design of this page could've been much more complex and intricate, but I think that all of the possible extras were left off for the sole reason of keeping it as simple and easy for the user as possible.  Looking as design with why? in your head allows for you to look at it in a very different perspective and allows you to notice and/or think about aspects you may not have the first time around.
